James Andean

James Andean is a musician and sound artist. He is active as both a performer and a composer in a range of fields, including electroacoustic composition and performance, improvisation, sound installation, and sound recording. He is a founding member of improvisation and new music quartet Rank Ensemble and interdisciplinary improvisation ensemble The Tuesday Group, and one half of audiovisual performance art duo Plucié/DesAndes. He has performed throughout Europe and North America, and his works have been performed around the world. He is currently completing a doctorate in acousmatic composition at the Centre for Music & Technology of the Sibelius Academy, in Helsinki, Finland.

Hyvät matkustajat ("The Good Travellers") began life as a 'sonic postcard from Finland'. This turned out to be only the first stop on its journey, however. The original material was later further developed as material for sonic exploration and spectral transformations, with the external spaces of the original version taking a sharp turn inwards, to chart internal spectral landscapes, together with the soundmarks and soundscapes of its first incarnation. And, like the travellers of the title, it is likely that the work will continue on, before eventually reaching its final destination.

Parade Fade

Born at the crest of the Baby Boomer wave in the United States, David Mooney continues to surf through life with open eyes and ears. Filtered through the canyons of his mind this sensory input has emerged over many years in various visual and aural forms that have been shown or heard in venues on most of Earth's populated continents. Since retiring from his day job, Mooney does much of his environmental scanning from the seat of his bicycle, up and down the hills of Pittsburgh PA, USA. Details: opaquemelodies.com

Ultimately the parade and our perceptions of it pass. As we listen to the fading truck horns, the only thing left to do is roll along and pick up the trash. This piece is a modified concert version of the "Parade" section of an hour long work called Interior Landscape. All sounds derived from recordings made by the composer in Pittsburgh. The parade was recorded among the buildings shown in the background of the photograph.

A playful journey through the sounds of a modern city. This work seeks to playfully explore the sonic textures present within audio recordings, transporting the listener on a surrealistic journey in sound. Sounds were recorded in external locations around Liverpool and Leicester, before being transformed, edited and montaged. Abstracted Journeys was comissioned as part of the 'EARS2' / 'Compose with Sounds' project and was premiered in Paris at the Groupe de recherches musicales (GRM), Akousma festival, January 2013.

Eine symphonische Heimatdichtung in Form eines radiophonen Roadmovies. Auf einer Reise per Autostopp durch Österreich werden im Gespräch mit den Reisegefähren jene Orte erfragt, bereist und aufgenommen, an denen es in Österreich am Schönsten klingt. Auf der Fahrt wird darüberhinaus der Nutzen solcher Unternehmungen besprochen. Das so entstandene Material wird dann von Volkmar Klien auf künstlerisch wertvolle Weise für das Ö1 Kunstradio bearbeitet und zu einem eindrucksvollen Klangportrait unserer Heimat geformt. Barbara Lüneburg - http://www.barbara-lueneburg.com Barbara Lüneburgs Arbeit als Solistin und Kammermusikerin hat unzählige Komponisten und Komponistinnen dazu inspiriert, Solowerke, Violinkonzerte und Kammermusik für sie zu schreiben. Inspiriert von diesen vielen Jahren intensiver, oft kollaborativer Arbeit in der neuen Musik komponiert Barbara Lüneburg seit 2004 mehr und mehr selbst. Der Prozeß von der reinen Interpretin zu einer Performerin, die auch selbst kompositorisch tätig ist, ist durch die Forschung für Ihre Doktorarbeit über das kreative Potential von Performern in den letzten Jahren noch verstärkt worden. In ihrer Dissertation hat sie neben den Bereichen Kreativität, Charisma und Konzertaura unter anderem das Feld Kollaboration zwischen Komponist und Interpret erforscht und zum Teil grundlegend erweitert. Einige von Barbara Lüneburgs Stücken enthalten spezifisch performative Elemente wie beispielsweise die Komposition "My favourite Reading" für fünf Aufführende mit Ghettoblastern, in anderen erforscht sie ungewöhnliche Instrumente wie Tannenzapfen, Steine, Bälle oder Ballons, sie konzipiert Soundscapes und Soundwalks, aber auch "gewöhnliche" elektro-akustische Kammermusik ist Teil ihres kompositorischen Repertoires.

Mein Soundscape Favoriten/Wien arbeitet mit Feldaufnahmen aus der unmittelbaren Umgebung des Columbusplatzes in Wien. Das Soundscape porträtiert einen Stadteil mit vielen Ausländern, überwiegend Immigranten ex-jugoslawischen Hintergrunds. Der Stadtteil ist altersmäßig gut durchmischt, wobei die zahlreichen Familien mit vielen kleinen Kindern auffallen. Die Menschen sind sehr sozial, eher gemütlich und verbringen auch schon mal einen ganzen Nachmittag in einem der zahlreichen Cafés oder auf einer Bank auf dem Platz, um zu plauschen und dem Leierkastenmann zu lauschen. Der Columbusplatz wird auch als Versammlungsort genutzt, und zwar ebenso für Großdemos (in diesem Fall eine Pro-Erdogan-Demo mit Teilnehmern aus ganz Österreich) wie zum Latinotanzen in der Gruppe mit ZuschauerInnenanimation am Samstag Vormittag. Die Strasse, die von und zum Columbusplatz führen ist eine Fußgänger"shoppingzone" mit etlichen Geschäften für Lebensmittel über Haushaltsbedarf bis hin zu Kleidergeschäften mit Dauer"musikbedröhnung". Auf der anderen Seite des Columbusplatzes verläuft eine stark befahrene Autoeinfallsstraße in die City, die am wenige Minuten entfernten teilweise schon genutzen teilweise noch im Bau befindlichen neuen Hauptbahnhof Wien vorbeiführt (hier durch die S-BahnStrecke repräsentiert). Alle Aufnahmen sind vom Columbusplatz und seiner unmittelbar angrenzenden Umgebung mit einem Radius von 3-5 Gehminuten.
